Goal: a theory to support skill-engineering for skills

The major application of a theory of skills is to maximize the capabilities of individuals using effective and efficient methods. Since individuals have different genomic capabilities, i.e. are not identical, the methods presumably must be customized to fit the genomic base of the individual to which they are applied.

An analogy for applying theories and engineering to build towers

Theories and engineering methods are used to calculate the correct building materials, a good structural design, and appropriate assembly methods so that the structure can withstands winds, earthquakes, and other events that might happen. Simulations based on these theories are used to test the plans.

Overlooking an eventuality and not including it in the design can lead to catastrophic failures. For instance, the design of the World Trade Center did not anticipate having a large jet-fuel fire on an upper floor. The heat caused the structure to fail and to collapse.

The present state for educating individuals

We are not optimal in preparing newborns for adult life with appropriate skills.

We are not good in optimizing the performance of professionals. We are not good in retraining skilled workers to fit current requirements of the economy.

We are even worse in training, monitoring, and improving our main skill engineers, the politicians that make policies for the country.
